Summary: If your TFT Storz coupling lock has broken, replacing it with a hard-anodized aluminum lock kit is the reliable fix. TFT offers specific kits for 4" and 5" couplings, each containing two aluminum locks, springs, and a preload tool — plus a bearing strip puller in the 4" kit. Make sure your coupling’s post is intact before ordering, and verify that your coupling was made after June 2003 using your serial number on tft.com.
If your Storz lock fell off, cracked, or is just plain missing, there's good news: replacing that busted lock with a new aluminum version is simple — if you know which kit to use and what condition your coupling is in.
Originally, TFT used plastic locks on Storz couplings. Exposure to the elements, rough handling, or tools used improperly could cause the plastic to fail. That's why TFT made the switch — all current Storz lock kits now come with durable, hard-anodized aluminum components built to handle real-world conditions.
Storz couplings aren’t one-size-fits-all, and neither are the locks. TFT offers separate lock kits for 4" and 5" Storz fittings because the coupling diameters — and therefore the lock dimensions — are different. Ordering the wrong size? That’ll just waste time.
2 hard-anodized aluminum locks
2 springs (which both actuate and hold the lock onto the post)
1 preload tool (used to insert the lock onto the coupling)
Many 4” setups don’t have enough space to install or remove the lock without first taking off the coupling. That’s why the 4” Storz kit includes a bearing strip puller tool — a handy addition for tight spots.
Look at the post on your Storz coupling. This is the small pin where the lock mounts. If that post is broken or missing, you can’t just swap the lock — the entire coupling needs to be replaced. That post is cast into the coupling, not a separate part.
Also, these replacement kits only fit Storz couplings made after June 2003. Not sure how old your setup is? Just punch in your serial number at TFT.com/support/product-manual/ to find out.
If you're unsure whether your coupling qualifies or which kit to order, TFT’s support tab has you covered. Better to check before you wrench.
